Post Maternity Leave

Well Hello, it's been a while. I've had some time away to have my 4th child, who arrived 8 days late on 7th September 2013. He's beautiful, amazing and totally worth the wait.

So even in my absence, I have still been busy behind the scenes. I've a few things to share with you which I'm sure is more exciting for me than it is for yourselves, but I'm sharing anyway.

1. I am now a member of the MOYO DIRECTORY

There is quite a large catalogue of designers on there, and I'm squished amongst them. So if you get the chance, take a peek at some of my collections, and let em know what you think and don't forget to <3 font="" me="" nbsp="" too:="">

2. The second edition of the Little White book has gone live, alongside the Find New Designers Website, to which I am also a member of.
Again, there are quite a few other amazing designers on there, but I am proud of Gill for spending the hundreds of (wo)man hours in completing it. So well done Gill, you've done a cracking job.

My profile can be found here:

3. I've been working hard alongside Keka Cases to get the templates completed for some new products. Now I have available 10 iPad/Kindle cases to purchase directly from the Keka website and they now ship to the UK.

But the exciting news is that soon you will all be able to purchase my designs on iPhone and Samsung cases too.

And on AMAZON UK!!!

I am one of the designers selected by Amazon and Keka cases to have my designs released first. That is amazing news for me.

4. Finally I have recently found out that I will be published in the up and coming ' New Pattern' book. More details coming soon about this.

Until next time.

Kickstarter Project Launch - 2014 Calendars

EXCITING NEWS!!!!!

I applied to start a Kickstarter Project a few days ago, and it has been approved and ready for backing.

Now don't panic, if you are unfamiliar with Kickstarter, have a look here and take a peek at what it is all about. Alternatively, have a read below:

So in a nutshell...

I NEED YOUR HELP!!!

The basic principle of kickstarter, is that you pledge an amount to back me in my project.

Lets say for example you wanted to offer £10 of your own money, to help me produce a range of 2014 Calendars....

What do you get out of it??

Well, that depends, as there are various lovely rewards for helping me (see my project page for more details).

A sample of the A4 wall calendar - Pledge £7 to receive one of these.
Here is an example:
For £10, you would be rewarded with a Desktop Calendar download, perfect for using as a background, or printing out and hanging on your wall, and an A3 Family Planner, which will be printed and delivered to your door
 by September 2013.

So you win too.

A2 double-sided Wall Planner - Pledge £5 to receive one of these

The idea is,  you help me, and you shall be rewarded

Now, here is the catch... I have a specific amount in mind to produce these calendars.... £750 to be exact, and if I don't raise all the funds by the deadline (1st August, Midnight), then I don't receive ANY of the money, and my dreams of releasing a range of 2014 calendars will go POOF!

Samples of Slimline Wall Calendar - Pledge £7 to receive one of these
So no pressure to help me.....

On the plus side, if you do kindly pledge an amount
(even £1 is awesome btw), you don't pay a thing, until after the deadline, when (if successful) you will receive an invoice with 2 week to pay up. Then I get paid... and BAM!!!

We have some fabulous Calendars.

Sample of Family Planner with space for 5 people + additional section for Birthdays and Appts.
Pledge £10 to receive one of these

So What do you say, Fancy helping a girl out???

and if you can't help... Please do spread the word.

Pin-Hop Welcome!

Hello and Welcome to my little slice of design paradise.

You are probably here as a result of the Pin-hop over on pinterest, and you liked the design I pinned over there.

Thanks for stopping by.

The Pin-hop Story:

This January a group of designers got together and created a pattern design blog hop, which turned out a great success!  But, looking through more than 50 separate designers blogs took ages!
So, after that weekend they started a serious discussion: How to keep the idea and creative input of a blog hop, but make it easier to pick and mix and find just your favorites? The answer was, of course, Pinterest!
Where else can the visitor get a quick overlook and  pick out exactly want they want to see, without going through every link in a chain? And all designs are clickable, taking the visitor directly to the designers blog, to see the whole portfolio. On pinterest you can also make comments, share, like, and save to your own favorites. Perfect for all visual artists!

Below you will find more designs I created using this 2013-2014 trend board as a source of inspiration.

I stuck with the colours provided as they go against the 'norm' of what I usually like to use, and really wanted to push my boundaries of colour.

If you click on any of the designs above, they will take you to my 'Find New Designers' board, which showcases more of my work.

But remember, you need to head back over to Pinterest and check out what other amazing talent is on offer too.

While you are here, why not check out what the fabulous Wini Dougall's has to offer on her website?

Comments and feedback is greatly appreciated, or even just a hello, to let me know you popped by.

Have fun with the Hop.

#365Pattern Project WEEK ONE!

Hello All,

Things have slowed down here finally, so I have had the opportunity to start the #365 Project which was originally started here by The CaravanShoppe.

The idea is basic, create one pattern a day for a year.
A whole 365 days.

I wanted to take part a while back, I know some people started Jan 1st and are well on their way with the project and I have seen some fantastic work, especially from Sam Osborne and Julie Hamilton of Artistically Afflicted.

So here I share day 1-7 with you all. And I must say, it has been nice to design so freely with the only barrier being my colour palette (I have restricted it).

Isn't is amazing how one set of 7 colours can come across so different in each design below?

Enjoy the view.

P.S You can view each day's design in the #365Pattern Tab above.

NEW WORK

Hi All, I've been quietly busy, working away on some new designs. Mainly for my agent, which is all top-secret, but there is a few things I'd like to share with you that I have created over the last 3 weeks or so:

Kleenex Competition

Voting starts MAY 1st, and any votes would be greatly appreciated.

These were for the 'sock-it-to-me' competition. I realise I shared the sock versions with you, but they look so much prettier in pattern, don't you agree?

Next up, we have Spoonflower's 'Geek-Chic' competition. this is a snippet from my entry, not currently available for voting, but will keep you posted as and when!

Currently an entry in this weeks (April 2013) 'sailing' competition. The colours were restricted but I think they work well for a children's print

And Finally, these were created for a Tigerprint Competition. I love the colour palette for this collection.

Hope you have enjoyed the eye candy for today.

Thanks for visiting.

How to make a mini Notebook

Hello one and all...

Welcome back to my blog.

Today I am going to share a little tutorial on how to make some mini A6 Notebooks (15 pages 30 sides) using just a variety of basic office equipment in approximately 8-10 minutes (per notebook).

Disclaimer: This is how I create my notebooks, that I sell via etsy. This is not the only way, nor necessarily the easiest/best way, but it is how I have learned and the results are top knotch. I recommend you practice this technique and then adjust to suit your requirements/needs.

Happy Making!!!!

Open up your design (if using a digital design), ensuring the template is A4 in size, adjust the scale of the design, baring in mind this will become an A6 notebook and large scale prints may not work as well as if it were smaller in scale.

Send to printer, I use the specifications below:
(sheetfeeder, borderless, Epson Photo Quality) and placed my logo across the back of the design ensuring it doesn't affect the pattern.
(this is optional, but recommended if you intend to sell them)

EQUIPMENT

7 sheets A4 white paper
(I use basic printing paper)
1 A4 sheet with chosen design
(I use Linen cardstock at 300gsm)
Paper trimmer
Metal ruler
Sharp Scalpel/blade
Long arm Stapler
Staples

Using the paper trimmer, cut the A4 white paper in half, width way, repeat with patterned paper.

Fold the patterned paper in half, to create a guideline for the staples, I use the black slider to make sure the staples are inserted evenly at either side of the line. Two staples should be all that is needed.

Turn the notebook over and using the metal ruler against the staples on the left hand side, pull the paper from the right hand side and create a crease rubbing your thumb across the outer side.
Turn the paper around 180 degrees and repeat. This will create a fold that allows the paper to turn easily.

As you can see the notebook now folds over and has a nice curve to the seam where the staples sit evenly.

Here you have 2 options.
(I prefer the scalpel, but find the paper trimmer works well).

As you have folded the paper over, you will find that there are overlapping sheets, and odd sheets of paper longer than others. Using either method, trim the paper down so the paper and the front cover are the same size. You should only need to remove minimal slices (see trimmer photo).

Please note: if you use a hand scalpel or as I have a blade, please ensure the blade is super sharp, as a blunt blade will just drag the paper and ruin the whole notebook. A sharp blade should only need one or two strokes to trim the paper.

Here you can see the finished product, complete with a band of card (semigloss epson paper) with my business logo on and a small product description.

P.S I noticed the pattern across the top was a little uneven after I took this picture. This is common, simply trim it to even size. Please note all sizes are approximate as this is handmade.

Back of notebook, simply use a small piece of tape, or double sided to fix the band together.

I always seal my notebooks in a C6 (A6) clear sealable bag available from any craft store/online store/eBay. This not only keeps it clean while being stored but looks professional when posting out to customers.

Here we have both notebooks complete, using 1 sheet of A4 Cardstock, 7 sheets of A4 paper, a few office essentials and a little patience.

Including time, it costs approx 60p to make 2, probably less with practice.

Don't be disheartened if it doesn't work first time, I must have made 5-10 of them before I created one I felt was suitable to sell.

Remember, if you find an easier solution to any section, give it a try, maybe there are other ways to make a mini notebook, and I'm 100% sure that there are, but this is my way, and it may just be your way too.

Note: Easily applicable to creating and A5 notebook also.

Sock-it-to-me Competition Feature Special

Peek-a-boo.

How have you all been?

Today I intend to share a little bit of creative awesomeness in the shape of a SOCK.

Well several socks actually.

Every year a fab company called 'Sock it to me' hold a competition to design a pair of socks. This is such a novel and fun idea. Not only does it allow us to expand our portfolio's and potentially win a prize, but it allows us to have some FUN with designing.

Novelty socks make the world go around after all.

I created 2 designs, with the intention of creating 3 more, but never did get around to it. But I love what I created and submitted regardless. Quite a few of my fellow ABSPD ladies entered also, as well as lots of my Twitter tribe, so I decided to do a call out to share some of the amazing designs that have been entered.

Feast your eyes on some awesome socki-ness.
